Paid Positions – Summer Camp 2020

Summer staff for 2020 are required to be on-site from Sunday evening to Friday evening. All positions include room and board. Staff must attend a paid staff training week June 28th to July 3rd. Staff must provide a clear criminal record check and have a valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C Certificate before starting the position. Volunteer Positions – Summer Camp 2020

All 2019 seasonal volunteer positions have now been filled. Summer 2020 positions will be posted in January.

Volunteer positions require a time commitment from Sunday evening to Friday evening. All volunteers will have at least two references checked and will have to provide a clear criminal record check. We ask volunteers to apply early (March if possible) to leave enough time for criminal record checks to be completed as these can take many weeks. All volunteers need to complete full applications to ensure we have all of your information and so that you can participate in all camp activities, if you so choose.

Responsible for a child who is not old enough for camp (under 6)? Volunteers can bring a pre-camp aged child for free . We are seeking a part-time certified Out of School Care Leader for our after school care program starting immediately. Ideal candidates have experience working with children ages 5-12 and are happy to facilitate outdoor adventure programming year-round. Shifts are 2:30-6:00pm Mondays-Fridays, except for stat holidays. Extra hours available on early dismissal and pro-d days.

Job Description:

These are the United Church values that root Camp Pringle in an expansive and deep faith tradition. We are looking for our summer 2020 Faith Quest Coordinator – someone to work collaborative with the Activities Coordinator, guided by the Camp Minister and Camp Director – to help weave these values into the whole of our summer camping program.

We are looking for someone who loves children, youth, and the outdoors; who has the creativity to see camp activities such as Paddle Boarding, Ropes courses, Arts and Crafts and Wall Climbing - as well as Reflection, Mindfulness, Games and Discussions, all as opportunities for children and staff to encounter something bigger than themselves. We have a beautiful out door chapel as well as the camp property to explore the sacredness of Creation. Days begin with Greet the Day and end with Vespers – Spiritual book-ends that you will co-lead with the Camp Minister.

The Faith Quest Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Activities Coordinator to prepare and lead games, hikes, campfire and other whole camp activities, as well as provide leadership for the seasonal summer staff. In May and June hours are available as a program facilitator for our many school groups, as well as 40 hours of paid prep time to plan and organize summer programming. The ideal candidate will have connections to a faith community, a history of collaborative work style and outdoor recreation experience.

Job Description:
Archery, Hiking, Climbing Wall, Orienteering and Campfire songs are just some of the amazing activities that make summer camp exciting and engaging. We are looking for our 2020 Activities Coordinator to lead campers in exploring and enjoying all things camp! As well as coordinating the big outdoor activities this role will help set up and build resources for games, activities and experiences that cabin leaders can “grab and go” in the in-between-times - these are the spaces where a good camp experience can be an amazing one for children – and you will have the opportunity to help make that magic happen.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, creative, who loves children, youth and the outdoors. Working collaboratively with the Faith Quest Coordinator, and supported and guided by the Camp Director, the Activities Coordinator will be influential in setting the tone and culture with the seasonal staff team and leading the community life of the staff.

The Activities Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Faith Quest Coordinator to prepare, lead and support other staff in leading games, hikes, campfire and other whole camp activities, as well as provide overall leadership for the seasonal summer staff. In May and June, you will provide program leadership for our many school groups, as well as time to prepare the program schedules and resources for the summer. Excellent organizational skills are a must, and previous experience with scheduling an asset. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with children in a camp or outdoor education setting. Community building skills and previous leadership experience a necessity.

The selected candidate should be comfortable with heights and willing to participate in our onsite 2 days ropes course training in May. NLS and Pleasure Craft Operator certifications and/or familiarity with CampBrain registration software an asset.

Job Description:
The Medic is a vital position on staff. We are seeking a mature, organized individual with experience in the first aid or medical field. The Medic will be responsible for all campers’ medical information, providing first aid, medications, and the upkeep of the infirmary, keeping first aid kits stocked and directing staff in first aid emergencies. The Medic will also support the summer staff with any medical needs as well as provide care and monitor medications for camp volunteers under the age of 18. Duties also include training and supervising the volunteer assistant medic (if applicable). The Medic works Sunday evening to Friday evening with residency in the Grace Infirmary. Ideally you will be familiar with a summer camp environment and routines. Must be responsible and caring and should enjoy working with children ages 6-17. You must feel comfortable taking a leadership role with cabin leaders and CITs to assist them with their camper care.

Job Description:
The Waterfront Coordinator is the leader of our lifeguard team. Must have NLS – pool as a minimum certification and have leadership experience supervising a team. Applicants should be experienced lifeguards confident in emergency response. Certifications and instructor abilities in canoeing, sailing, fishing and kayaking are definite assets. Must ensure a safe waterfront for campers and staff at all times. The Waterfront Director will work with the Residential Caretaker to ensure all waterfront equipment is maintained for safe use throughout the season. In collaboration with the Camp Director and/or Medic, the waterfront director will lead regular waterfront emergency drills for the campers and staff. In addition to lifeguarding, all waterfront staff will be expected to lead waterfront games and be an active member of the full camp program including participation in campfires and skits, wide games and overnight supervision of campers as needed. Waterfront Staff work Sunday evening to Friday evening with on-site accommodation and all meals provided. The Waterfront Director is expected to work full time for rental groups in May and June.

Job Description:
Cabin Leaders – The defining role at camp. Cabin Leaders are the people who supervise the campers day and night and really get to know each camper as the true individuals they are. Cabin Leaders assist or lead all activities at camp from archery to campfires and skits. Leaders work Sunday evening to Friday evening with onsite accommodation and all meals provided. Cabin Leaders will sleep in cabins with campers 4 nights per week with 1 night off covered by activity staff. Ideal candidates are outgoing, energetic and are experienced working with children ages 6-14.

Job Description:
The CIT and CREW Program Leaders are responsible for planning and delivering all aspects of our teen leadership programs for youth ages 14-17. During the first week of camp, the leaders will facilitate the CIT training for participants ages 16-17 and provide the CITs with their detailed training program preparing them to step into their roles as co-cabin leaders for the following 4 weeks. This role will involve mentoring and supervised shadow shifts to ensure all CITs feel prepared to work with our campers. Leaders will be supported by the Camp Director for policy training workshops. These leaders will also act as mentors and ongoing support for the CITs in their co-cabin leading weeks following their training. Weeks 2-5 of camp will consist of leading 2, two-week Crew sessions for teens ages 14-16. The Crew program is an introductory leadership program where teens can participate in all camp activities, complete a service project for camp and develop their team leadership skills. The Crew participants will also lead a campfire program and wide game for the younger campers.

Ideal candidates will have experience working in a summer camp setting and have experience working with older youth; you must feel comfortable training and mentoring a group of teens ages 14-17. The CIT and Crew leaders work Sunday evening to Friday evening with on-site accommodation and all meals provided. Successful candidates may be offered extra employment opportunities working as program staff for school rental groups in May and June. An additional 8 hours total will be provided to complete all program youth reference letters and final report post summer.

Job Description:
We are seeking 2 seasonal Kitchen Assistants to assist in our rentals and summer camp program food preparation, cooking, serving, washing dishes and cleaning of the kitchen to meet all standards set out by the Head Cook. In conjunction with the Head Cook, the Kitchen Assistants are responsible for the organization, cleanliness, efficiency, and smooth running of the kitchen. The Kitchen Assistants share in the responsibility for quality of food and service in the dining hall. From July-August, Kitchen Assistants work Sunday evening to Friday evening with on-site accommodation and all meals provided. During the months of May and June kitchen assistants may be expected to work some weekend rental shifts.
