Paid Positions – Summer 2018

Applications for 2018 seasonal staff positions (May-August) will go live on Monday, November 13th. Applications will remain open until all positions have been filled. Interviews for returning staff will occur in early December. Interviews for all new applicants will occur mid December-early January. Summer staff for 2018 are required to be on-site from Sunday evening to Friday evening. All positions include room and board. Staff must attend a paid staff training week July 2-6th. Staff must provide a clear criminal record check and have a valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C Certificate before starting the position.

Volunteer Positions

Volunteer positions require a time commitment from Sunday evening to Friday evening. All volunteers will have at least two references checked and will have to provide a clear criminal record check. We ask volunteers to apply early (March if possible) to leave enough time for criminal record checks to be completed as these can take many weeks. All volunteers need to complete full applications to ensure we have all of your information and so that you can participate in all camp activities, if you so choose.

Responsible for a child who is not old enough for camp (under 6)? Volunteers can bring a pre-camp aged child for free . CHAPLAIN – Summer Camp (1 position available)

Term: July 2nd-August 31st, 2017
(MANDATORY PAID STAFF TRAINING: July 2-6th and possible participation in the Ropes Training June 2-3rd)

Compensation: $13.00/hr for School Program Shifts and $624.00/week for summer camp program (including training week)
+ up to 32 hours paid pre-summer prep work and end of summer reporting

Description:The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, energetic team player who enjoys working with children and youth. The successful applicant will be a member of the United Church of Canada. The Chaplain will help guide the faith program every week. The Chaplain will develop the faith experience at camp with guidance from the Camp Faith curriculum.
The Chaplain will work Sunday evening to Friday evening with onsite accommodation and all meals provided. Accommodation will be provided in the Laura Butler lodge in a shared accommodation with access to the staff/CIT lounge. The Chaplain is expected to participate in all camp wide activities and maybe required to accommodate in cabins to supervise youth or children as needed. The Chaplain supports senior staff to guide campers and staff in relation to disciplinary issues and exploration of God. MEDIC – School Program & Summer Camp (1 Position Available)

Description:The Medic is a vital position on staff. We are seeking a young licensed paramedic or registered nurse with all valid certification. The Medic will deliver the Standard First Aid Course for the teen program and support the overall success of the teen leadership programs. The Medic will be responsible for all campers’ medical information, providing first aid, medications, and the upkeep of the infirmary, keeping first aid kits stocked and directing staff in first aid emergencies. The Medic will also support the summer staff with any medical needs as well as provide care and monitor medications for camp volunteers under the age of 18. Duties also include training and supervising the volunteer assistant medic (if applicable). The Medic works Sunday evening to Friday evening with residency in the Grace Infirmary and all meals provided. Ideally you will be familiar with the Camp Pringle environment and routines. Must be responsible and caring and should enjoy working with children ages 6-17. You must feel comfortable training and leading a group of teens and have experience teaching first aid. NLS certificate and/or Camp Pringle site-specific ropes training course an asset.

Description:Waterfront Director – The leader of our waterfront team. Must have NLS – pool as a minimum certification and have experience as a supervisor. Certifications and instructor abilities in canoeing, sailing, fishing and kayaking are definite assets. Must also be able to ensure a safe waterfront at all times. Beyond being the Waterfront Director, you will be expected to lead waterfront games and be an active member of the full camp program. Waterfront Staff work Sunday evening to Friday evening with on-site accommodation and all meals provided. Accommodation will be provided in the Laura Butler lodge in a shared accommodation with access to the staff/CIT lounge. The Waterfront Director is expected to work all school rental groups in May and June.

Description:Under the leadership of the Waterfront Director this position requires excellent instruction skill that will lead to campers having a satisfying and fun experience when learning canoeing, kayaking, sailing and swimming lessons. Beyond being a lifeguard, you will be expected to lead waterfront games and be an active member of the full camp program (field games, skits, camping, night games and at times leading a cabin, camp activities and or sleeping in a cabin, as needed). Waterfront Staff work Sunday evening to Friday evening with on-site accommodation and all meals provided. Accommodation will be provided in the Laura Butler lodge in a shared accommodation with access to the staff/CIT lounge. Ideally you are an experienced lifeguard and swim instructor. If you have your Bronze Cross Instructor certificate it is considered an asset. INCLUSION FACILITATOR – Summer Camp (21 Position Available)

Description:The Inclusion counsellor works with our campers with disabilities to supervise the campers day and night to participate in all aspects of camp. The Inclusion counsellor assists a camper to multiple campers with disabilities to participate in all activities at camp from archery, waterfront activities, meals, campfires, skits, peer interactions, behavioural management and personal care. The Inclusion counsellor works Sunday evening to Friday evening with onsite accommodation and all meals provided. The Inclusion Counsellors will sleep in cabins with campers every night. Additional accommodation will be provided in the Laura Butler lodge in a shared accommodation with access to the staff/CIT lounge, in Ruth Kershaw. Ideal candidates are outgoing, energetic and are experienced working with children ages 6-14 with disabilities (including but not limited to ADHD and Autism). Description:The L.I.T. and CREW Program Leaders are responsible for planning and delivering all aspects of our teen leadership programs for youth ages 15-17.

In the first 3 weeks of summer the leaders will provide the LITs with their detailed training program and service work (dishwashing). Leaders will be supported by the Program Coordinator for policy training workshops as well as the Waterfront staff who will deliver the Bronze Medallion course and the camp Medic who will deliver the Standard First Aid course. In weeks 3-6, the leaders will transition to lead the CREW program in their service work (dishes and outdoor maintenance) as well as their leadership and recreational activities.

Ideal candidates will have experience working at Camp Pringle and experience working with older youth; you must feel comfortable training and mentoring a group of teens ages 15-17.

The L.I.T. and Crew leaders work Sunday evening to Friday evening with on-site accommodation and all meals provided. Successful candidates may be offered extra employment opportunities working as program staff for school rental groups in May and June. An additional 8 hours total will be provided to complete all program youth reference letters and final report post summer.

Counsellors will sleep in cabins with campers every night. ASSISTANT CAMP COORDINATOR (1 Position Available)

Term: May 7th-August 31st, 2017
(MANDATORY PAID STAFF TRAINING: July 2-6th)

Compensation: $13.00/hr (24hrs/week)

Description:A new position this year, the Assistant Camp Coordinator will work closely with our full time Camp Coordinator. Duties will include prepping and assisting during Sunday night sign in, running Friday afternoon sign out, assisting in weekly program schedules for school programs and summer camps, organizing and distributing birthday cards for campers, printing forms for parents, assisting parents with our online registration and managing camp merchandise sales. Duties may also include working reception during weekend rental groups and stepping up to cover our camp coordinator when they are off site.

Ideal candidates are outgoing, energetic and are experienced working with children ages 6-17 and are skilled and comfortable communicating with parents and teachers. Applicants should have an understanding of outdoor summer camp programming and ideally have worked at Camp Pringle.

The successful candidate must be available for Fridays and Sundays. Additional 1-2 days per week are flexible and can be arranged in conjunction with our camp coordinator’s schedule. KITCHEN ASSISTANTS – School Program & Summer Camp (2 Positions Available)

Compensation: $12.00/hr for Rental Group Shifts and $544.80/week for summer camp program (including training week)

Description:Camp Pringle is seeking Kitchen Assistants to assist in our rentals and camps' food preparation, cooking, serving, dishes and cleaning of the Kitchen to meet all standards set out by the Head Cook. In conjunction with the Head Cook, the Kitchen Assistant is responsible for the organization, cleanliness, efficiency, and smooth running of the kitchen. The Kitchen Assistants shares in the responsibility for quality of food and service in the Dining Room.

From July-August, Kitchen Assistants work Sunday evening to Friday evening with on-site accommodation and all meals provided. During the months of May and June kitchen assistants may be expected to work some weekend rental shifts. Accommodation is provided with summer program staff in Laura Butler Lodge.

Camp Parent or Grandparent - Summer Camp Volunteer

Term: Sunday evening to Friday evening of your choice of week during the summer.

Compensation: The knowledge that you have helped enrich the life of one or more young people and a week at the lake with someone else cooking for you!.

Description:This position has two main responsibilities. To help ensure the dining hall is prepared for meals and snacks; and to be a parent to any child who needs time away from the group dynamic. The first responsibility includes ensuring there is water at every table, chairs are down, cups are out and that the kitchen has everything they need for service. You may be asked to help serve food. You are also responsible for helping ensure the cabin gopher group stays after the meal to sweep and clean up the dining hall. You will also decide if the floor needs a spot, or a full mopping and ensure this is done. This role also looks after ensuring there is coffee prepared and the coffee and juice areas are kept tidy. The second responsibility might involve supervising a cabin while a leader goes to get changed, or taking a camper for a walk to help the group dynamics. Camp has a strategy for helping homesick campers cope and we ask that volunteers learn this strategy.

Skills Needed: Empathy and compassion, a good work ethic and the ability to look for ways to be helpful.

Description:Camp Pringle Counsellor in Training program builds the skills to be a camp counsellor. Participants co-lead our camper program all summer.

CITs will participate in staff training from July 2-6th and co-lead for the rest of the weeks of July and August 17th, Sunday at 5:30pm to Friday at 4:30pm. To apply complete an application form on line at camppringle.com by May 1st and 8-10 youth will be selected to participate for the summer.
