Paid Positions – Summer 2019

Summer staff for 2019 are required to be on-site from Sunday evening to Friday evening. All positions include room and board. Staff must attend a paid staff training week July 1-5th. Staff must provide a clear criminal record check and have a valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C Certificate before starting the position.

Volunteer Positions

Volunteer positions require a time commitment from Sunday evening to Friday evening. All volunteers will have at least two references checked and will have to provide a clear criminal record check. We ask volunteers to apply early (March if possible) to leave enough time for criminal record checks to be completed as these can take many weeks. All volunteers need to complete full applications to ensure we have all of your information and so that you can participate in all camp activities, if you so choose.

Responsible for a child who is not old enough for camp (under 6)? Volunteers can bring a pre-camp aged child for free . COUNSELLOR-IN-TRAINING (CIT) – Summer Camp (6 Positions Available)

Term: July 1st-August 16th, 2019
(MANDATORY CIT TRAINING: July 1-5th)

Compensation: Term remuneration ~ Room and board ~ honorarium

Description:Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) – The defining role at camp. Counsellors are the people who supervise the campers day and night and really get to know each camper as the true and great individuals they are. Counsellors assist or lead all activities at camp from archery to campfires and skits. Leaders work Sunday evening to Friday evening with onsite accommodation and all meals provided. Counsellors will sleep in cabins with campers every night. Additional accommodation will be provided in the Laura Butler lodge in a shared accommodation with access to the staff/CIT lounge. Ideal candidates are outgoing, energetic and are experienced working with children ages 6-14.

Job Requirements:
• Minimum 16 years of age by July 1, 2019 (no exceptions)
• Must be available for mandatory staff training, see dates above
• Must Undergo a Criminal Record Check to be submitted by start of term
• Valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C Certificate

WATERFRONT DIRECTOR– School Program & Summer Camp

Term: Mid May to August 30th, 2019
(MANDATORY PAID STAFF TRAINING: July 1-5th)

Compensation: ~$14.50/hr for an 8hr day for School Programming and $116.00 day rate for summer camp (includes the training week)

Description:Waterfront Director – The leader of our waterfront team. Must have NLS – pool as a minimum certification and have experience as a supervisor. Certifications and instructor abilities in canoeing, sailing, fishing and kayaking are definite assets. Must also be able to ensure a safe waterfront at all times. Beyond being the Waterfront Director, you will be expected to lead waterfront games and be an active member of the full camp program. Waterfront Staff work Sunday evening to Friday evening with on-site accommodation and all meals provided. Accommodation will be provided in a shared accommodation with access to the staff/CIT lounge. The Waterfront Director is expected to work all school rental groups in May and June.

Job Requirements:
• Minimum 18 years of age by July 1, 2019 (no exceptions)
• Must be available for staff training, see above dates
• Must Undergo a Criminal Record Check to be submitted by start of term
• Valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C Certificate
• Valid NLS Certificate
• Valid WSI Certificate
• Pleasure Craft Operator Card
• Certification to teach Bronze Cross and Medallion considered an asset

LIFEGUARDS– School Program & Summer Camp

Term: July 1 to August 30th, 2019
(MANDATORY PAID STAFF TRAINING: July 1-5th)

Compensation: ~$13/hr. for an 8hr day for School Programming and$110.80 day rate for summer camp (including staff training week)

Description:NLS Waterfront Summer Staff – Under the leadership of the Waterfront Director this position requires excellent instruction skill that will lead to campers having a satisfying and fun experience when learning canoeing, kayaking, sailing and swimming lessons. Beyond being a lifeguard, you will be expected to lead waterfront games and be an active member of the full camp program (field games, skits, camping, night games and at times leading a cabin, camp activities and or sleeping in a cabin, as needed). Waterfront Staff work Sunday evening to Friday evening with on-site accommodation and all meals provided. Ideally you are an experienced lifeguard and swim instructor. If you have your Bronze Cross Instructor certificate it is considered an asset. Successful candidates may be offered extra employment opportunities working as program staff for school rental groups in May and June.

LIT & CREW PROGRAM LEADERS – Summer Camp

Term: July 1 to August 30th, 2019
(MANDATORY PAID STAFF TRAINING: July 1-5th and SITE SPECIFIC ROPES COURSE TRAINING June 2-3)

Compensation: ~ $110.80 DAY RATE FOR SUMMER CAMP (includes staff training week)

Description:LIT and CREW Program Leaders – responsible for delivering all aspects of our teen leadership programs. In the first 3 weeks of summer the leaders will provide the LITs with their detailed training program and service work (dishwashing). Leaders will be supported by the Program Coordinator for policy training workshops as well as a Swim & First Aid Instructor who will deliver the LITs their Bronze Medallion course and their Standard First Aid course. (Ideal if Teen Leader has Bronze Cross and Medallion Instructor Certification)

In weeks 4-6, the leaders will transition to lead the CREW program in their service work (dishes and outdoor maintenance) as well as their leadership and recreational activities.

Ideal candidates will have experience working at Camp Pringle and experience working with older youth; you must feel comfortable training and mentoring a group of teens ages 15-17.

The LIT and CREW Leaders work Sunday evening to Friday evening with on-site accommodation and all meals provided. Successful candidates may be offered extra employment opportunities working as program staff for school rental groups in May and June. An additional 8 hours total will be provided to complete all program youth reference letters and final report.
